-- Russian defense minister: Ties with Iran reach new heights despite sanctions
Russia and Iran’s ties have reached a new level in spite of the opposition from the US and its Western allies, Moscow’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Wednesday.
“We are determined to implement the entire set of our planned activities despite opposition from the US and its Western allies. The pressure of sanctions on Russia and Iran is proving to be futile, while Russia-Iran cooperation is reaching new highs,” Shoigu said at negotiations with his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, as cited by state news agency TASS.
-- Iran’s economy grew by 6.2% in first quarter: CBI
The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) reported that the economy grew by 6.2% in the first three months of the Iranian year (March 21 to June 21).
Figures released by the CBI on Wednesday showed that the gross domestic product (GDP), the broadest measure of economic activity, reached 3,802.1 trillion rials, or about $90 billion, in the first quarter, up 6.2% compared to the same period last year.
-- Contract on development of joint Azadegan oil field to be signed soon
A contract on the integrated development of the joint Azadegan oil field will be signed within a month, said the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) director of investment and business development on Wednesday.
Fereydoun Kord-Zanganeh, who made the announcement at a meeting between NIOC and insurance companies, added that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed, and Dasht Azadegan Arvand Company was set up with a $7-billion investment made by two Iranian exploration and production (E&P) companies and eight banks to implement the project.

-- Arash Mir-Ahmadi Passes Away at 52
Iranian actor Arash Mir-Ahmadi passed away on Tuesday at a hospital in Tehran at the age of 52 after losing a long battle with cancer. He was under treatment and chemotherapy but slipped into a coma Tuesday evening and passed away, according to his wife Marjan Safabakhsh.
Mir-Ahmadi, who was also a TV host of entertaining shows, was best remembered by the happy moments he created in his comedies. He was a graduate of Performing Arts from the University of Tehran and was also a director and scriptwriter besides his main acting career.
-- 1,100 Iranian Book Titles on Display at Baghdad Fair
The Baghdad International Book Fair has opened, with Iran’s Book and Literature Institute displaying around 1,100 books in various disciplines. Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammed Shia’ al-Sudani took part in the opening ceremony. He said supporting culture is one of the objectives of the Iraqi government.
The fair aims to reinstate the value of culture as a movement for raising awareness and development. The fair says it provides a platform for interaction and networking among creative intellectuals, scientists, artists, and consumers of their innovative products.

Dopiazeh aloo is a flavorful and mildly spicy potato curry from southern Iran. -- Iran elected as new chair of Asia Cooperation Dialogue
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian was elected as the new head of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) at the 18th ministerial meeting of the forum. The meeting took place on Wednesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly’s 78th session in New York.
Speaking at the conference, Amir Abdollahian emphasized the value of multilateralism and the vital role that multilateral organizations like ACD play in fostering international cooperation and opening up new chances for progress.
-- Book on Komala terrorist group unveiled in Tehran
A book on Komala Party (a terrorist group active in the Kurdistan region) was unveiled Wednesday during a ceremony at Mehr Hall of Tehran’s Art Bureau.
Entitled “Seitareh” (Conquest), the book contains the memoirs of Nader Kiani, a member of Iran's intelligence service, who infiltrated the Komala Party, a terrorist group active in the Kurdistan region, for a period of seven years.
